Cartoon News is The Future

Next Media now produces about 60 computer-animated dramatizations daily that draw about five million hits a day, all aimed at a generation under 40 hooked on video games and the Internet.

"They grew up watching TV and playing video games...so the future is obviously the visual world," Lai told AFP from his spartan office in an industrial park far from Hong Kong's glittering financial district.

"But the whole thing is a two-sided trial and error process -- we have to get used to the right way to present it and people have to get used to accepting it."

...

"I really don't care what people say to be honest... Just because nobody has ever tried something doesn't mean it's crazy." ~ Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai, whose flagship Apple Daily is a must read in Hong Kong.

Lai is famous for his unconventional style, rarely holding back on sensitive political matters, unlike some of his fellow Asian media moguls.

Despite making more than a few enemies through Apple's coverage and being an alleged target of a foiled assassination attempt in 2008, Lai has never had a bodyguard. And he continues to speak out.

...

The printed word still has a future, he says, but not without big changes in the way it is presented.

"The future has to be in visual and we have to be in that business."

The Wide Appeal of Wikipedia

On Jan 15, 2001, Wikipedia was born.

It was only supposed to be a test. But within a month, there were already 600 entries, which was more than Nupedia had. Within a year, it was 20,000 – to the astonishment of the founders.

Increasingly, Wikipedia entries topped Google search lists for any given subject. People were turning to it for information. It was not always reliable, not always well-written. But it was there, instantly, at the click of a return button.Conventional encyclopaedias could not compete.

...

In 2003, Wales founded the Wikimedia Foundation, moving all intellectual property rights and domain names pertaining to Wikipedia to the new foundation, whose purpose is to establish general policy for the encyclopaedia and its sister projects on a donor-funded basis.

The big question then and now is why thousands of authors spend their own time crafting entries which do not bear their own names and which later on may be totally rewritten by someone else – or deleted with a mouse click.

"There is a certain appeal in compiling knowledge without the limitations of copyrights," says Christian Stegbauer, a German sociologist...

Increase Targeted Web Traffic

Remember the two keywords to a successful website: TRAFFIC, CONVERSION.

Let's talk about traffic here. There are many ways to drive traffic to your website (i.e. link building, email signatures, banner exchange, forum/blogs commenting etc), be it the free way, or through the commercial way (where you buy targeted web site traffic).

Let's use Sweet Memories site as an example. One of the way to drive traffic is while checking out your social activities in high traffic sites such as Facebook, you can leave a friendly comment as people love to share nice things around. I saw a net friend sharing a nice photo in her Facebook status, so I just leave comment like "hey, why not you share it at http://www.mysweetsweetmemories.com too?"

Table shown above is a very important business concept, be it for affiliate business, internet marketing, or online promotion. Remember the two golden keywords - TRAFFIC, CONVERSION (as mentioned in )?

Let's talk about the CONVERSION part.

It's no point if you have 100,000 contacts in your list or 1 million fans in your social media if you don't know how to MONETIZE (i.e. convert these prospects into customers, or up-sell/cross-sell/down-sell to existing customers) them.

How well you understand the concept illustrated in the table above will determine how big your business will grow.

Win Free GPS Tracking Device Campaign

Win Free GPS Campaign was launched on 3rd Jan, 2011. And copycat were found copying the idea 2 days later. It's a good thing as it shows that the idea works, and if our team are strong, what they can copy is what they can only see with their eyes.

This reminded me of Mr. Cheah (ex-UBS Software boss who sold his company to Sage after listing)'s expression when we found pirated UBS Software in once famous pirated software heaven Holiday Plaza, Johor Baru. "Oh! Finally got people want to pirate my software!" He exclaimed happily.

We also received quite some good recommendation from quality sites such as Shopping and Sales, Jayce Ooi, and Guru Preet, which brought us quite some traffic.

7 Steps to Running A Successful Content Publishing Internet Business

Step 1. Market Research
Business is all about finding people's need and fulfill them! Make sure there is a demand for what you are going to supply!

Step 2. Setting Up Your Web Properties
Leave the technical stuffs to professionals. Your time should be used for more profiting activities such as define the business model (how you are going to generate your multiple streams of passive income, driving traffic to your site - SEO your web page for Google (Video) - etc).

Target: Fill in at least 20 articles before you go to step 3. Make a mid term target of, say 100 articles within 6 months.

Step 3. Apply Adsense Account
Make sure you got your WHOIS record right and your site is properly setup before you apply the account as a publisher. This may take you quite some time. Go to Step 4 directly once you submit the application.

Step 4. Facebook
Facebook and Google are two of top traffic websites. If you don't get traffic from these top sites, where else? Setup a facebook fans club using a more generic name, such as Fashion.fashion facebook community or Ecoliving.MY facebook community. You can use a more generic and branding purpose name once you got more than 25 fans in your community, simply go to facebook.com/username for changes.

You may want to target some >= 10,000 fans for your community. If you want to know how much is your facebook page worth, get some guide from Social Page Evaluator - measuring facebook return on investment.

Step 5. Social Media Submission
This is part of your link building effort. You may set a target of submitting only 1 article per day to the social media or bookmarking sites. Some suggested sites are:
Twitter, Bebo, Yahoo!Buzz, Google Buzz, BlinkList, Reddit, Webride.org, Digg, StumbleUpon, Messenger/MSN Live, MySpace, Delicious, Mr Wong, Yahoo!Bookmark, Google Bookmark, Faves, Kirtsy, Xanga, Tumblr... Most of which are available in your ShareThis plugin. You can check out more by Google "submit directory your keyword" or "submit social media your keyword

Step 6. Traffic Monitoring
Start monitoring your business with Google Analytic or Alexa traffic ranking, besides checking the Adsense report to maximize your profit. If you want to have some ideas how much your website may worth, check out Biznut website evaluation service.

Step 7. List Building
You may build your own list to minimize your effort in updating your members by using Auto Responder System such as Aweber. If you prefer free services, try Google Group, Yahoo Group or MSN Group. Keep in touch with your community.

Four ways to make money on the internet: Content Publishing, Affiliate Programs, Resale Rights, and Own Products.

The million dollar question: How can I do what I do for more and more people with less and less effort?

To your success!
